Bayern Munich Weighing Up Second Bid for Matthijs de Ligt

Perennial Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly lining up an improved second bid for sought-after Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.

According to Calciomercato, the Bavarians are ready to lift their initial €60m plus €10m in add-ons offer to convince the Italians to give the go-ahead.

Bayern's first attempt to take the 22-year-old away from Turin fell on Juventus' deaf ears, with Massimiliano Allegri's side demanding close to €100m to sanction the transfer.

Juve paid Ajax around €75m to capture de Ligt's signature in 2019 and they are unwilling to cut him loose unless they make a substantial profit from his departure.

After seeing their first approach fall flat, Bayern are ready to go up to €70m upfront plus bonuses to close things out, which may well do the trick.

On top of that, Julian Nagelsmann's men have already struck an agreement with the Netherlands international over personal terms, further solidifying their position in negotiations with Juventus.

De Ligt, who has experienced a mixed three-year spell at the Allianz Stadium, has given a blessing to Bayern to negotiate his switch to the Bundesliga.

The Dutchman's approval gives the Germans the upper hand over the Bianconeri. Yet, the record-time Serie A champions are hell-bent on squeezing out every penny from their Bundesliga counterparts.

Juventus won't force de Ligt to say no to Bayern against his will, but they are aware his impending departure would leave Allegri's team exposed at the back.

The Turin heavyweights already waved goodbye to long-serving captain Giorgio Chiellini at the end of last season.

With de Ligt also on his way out of the club, Juventus will face a busy summer, trying to fill the void.
