Robert Lewandowski claims Golden Shoe 2021

Bayern Munich stalwart Robert Lewandowski has claimed the Golden Shoe award for 2020/21 after bagging a staggering 41 goals in the Bundesliga last season.

Lewandowski enjoyed a record-breaking 2020/21 season and rightfully earned his first Golden Shoe award, leaving closest follower Lionel Messi 11 goals behind.

While the ex-Barcelona talisman finished as the runner-up, his arch-nemesis Cristiano Ronaldo was left in third place after recording 29 Serie A goals for Juventus.

It’s worth noting that Lewandowski managed his outrageous tally in just 29 Bundesliga appearances, averaging a resounding 1.43 goals per league game.

Indeed, the 33-year-old striker netted more league goals than six Bundesliga sides last season, which speaks enough of his well-documented scoring prowess.

Lewandowski’s ‘killer instincts’ have been on full display for years, with the Poland captain smashing a 40-goal barrier in the last six seasons on the trot.

Going back to the 2015/16 campaign, the former Borussia Dortmund marksman has tallied 25+ Bundesliga goals in all but one season to earn a reputation as one of the division’s hardest hitters.

His remarkable achievement last season also includes a new Bundesliga record. Indeed, Lewandowski broke Gerd Muller’s 40-goal per season milestone in 2020/21.

Excited about winning such a flattering award, the Pole refused to hide his feeling, dedicating his individual success to his Bayern Munich teammates.

“I’m delighted by this great honor,” he told the club’s official website after receiving the prize.

“I’d like to thank my family, my teammates, the coaching staff, and the whole of FC Bayern. I couldn’t win titles like these without their support. In sport – like in life – it’s crucial that you value each other, support each other, are always fair with each other and try to be a role model for others.

“That’s why I dedicate this award to all the people who are by my side every day. I’m very happy with what we’ve achieved together as a team. Thank you very much.”

Lewandowski has picked up where he left off last season, notching seven goals in just five Bundesliga appearances this term.

He added another two in Europe, registering a brace in Bayern’s 3-0 thrashing of Barcelona in their Champions League curtain-raiser.
