OFFICIAL: Julian Draxler pens new deal at PSG
Draxler joined PSG from Wolfsburg in summer 2017 as one of the hottest prospects in European football, with the French side forking out €42million for securing his signature.
The German playmaker signed a four-year contract at the Parc des Princes but has since blown hot and cold, often being overshadowed by the likes of Angel Di Maria, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.
Following an injury-hit start to the 2020/21 season, the 27-year-old has fought his way back into the starting line-up, having reeled off a string of sparkling performances under the stewardship of Mauricio Pochettino.
But many were expected the ex-Schalke youngster to cut short his four-year stint in the French capital and seek new pastures to regain his self-confidence and get his career back on track.
PSG boast a well-knit roster jammed full of world-class players, and it is often a daunting task for the squad players like Draxler to stand out.
However, the attacking midfielder seems ready to fancy his chances in Paris, as witnessed by the fact he has decided to pledge his long-term future to the Ligue 1 heavyweights.
As announced by the club on Monday, Draxler has penned a new deal that will keep him in France until 2024, effectively shutting down the rumors about the player’s summer departure.
During his four-year spell at PSG, Draxler has amassed 24 goals in 173 appearances, being part of the squad that won Ligue 1 three times, the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue three times apiece, and the Trophee des Champions twice.
He was also part of Thomas Tuchel’s side to succumb to a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in last season’s UEFA Champions League final.
