Juventus vs Roma: Serie A Preview & Potential Line-ups

Juventus and AS Roma are set to face off at the Allianz Stadium in a mammoth Serie A encounter on Saturday evening.

Both teams have high ambitions for this season, but they have yet to back their seasonal goals with the actual performances on the pitch.

Juventus opened the season with an emphatic 3-0 home victory over a depleted Sassuolo as marquee striker Dusan Vlahovic notched up a brace to complement Angel Di Maria's goal on his Serie A debut.

However, Massimiliano Allegri's side could only manage a tepid scoreless draw away to Sampdoria last time out, with VAR disallowing Adrien Rabiot's second-half goal.

In the meantime, Jose Mourinho's Roma claimed a narrow 1-0 win away to Salernitana on matchday one and defeated newly-promoted Cremonese the following weekend via an identical scoreline.

Despite enjoying a 100% start to the new Serie A season, the Giallorossi's performances have flattered to deceive.

Mourinho's team will have to improve a lot if they are to beat Juventus in Turin for the first time since 2020, even though the Bianconeri are still miles away from their best form.

Match Preview

Juventus

Juventus have historically enjoyed a fair amount of success versus Roma, as an eye-catching haul of 85 Serie A wins over the Giallorossi represents their best winning record against all top-flight sides.

On top of that, since moving to the Allianz Stadium in 2011, the record-time Serie A champions have racked up ten victories from 11 league meetings with Roma in Turin (L1).

It gets better. Except for a 3-1 defeat in 2020, Juventus have won six of their last seven home league matches against this opposition without conceding, with five of those triumphs yielding the same 1-0 scoreline.

Roma

Coming into this showdown, Mourinho's men have won back-to-back Serie A matches on the road without conceding and could now make it three straight away league victories 'to nil' for the first time since 2018.

However, former Juventus talisman Paulo Dybala and his new teammates have struggled for conversion this season. Despite attempting a league-high 47 shots in the opening two rounds, Roma have only scored twice.

A lack of composure in the front third could prove costly at the Allianz Stadium, where they've failed to find the back of the net in eight of their previous 11 visits.
